Happy Birthday Valentino

11th May 1932 was the day the Valentino Garavani was born. The same day 82 years later the ‘Last Emperor of Fashion’ and Italy’s greatest couturier, still possesses an inspirational and influential presence. Valentino is, without a doubt, my favourite designer. The clothes he created and ideology that came with them simply oozed class, sophistication and elegance. All the while remaining wearable, simplistic and modest. His clothes and brand are universally recognised and utterly timeless. Stepping down from his label on September 4th 2007, was by no means the end. Today the label and brand Valentino is as strong and successful as ever due to the fantastic duo Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli. Happy Birthday Valentino. A fashion great and inspirational icon.

Jean Paul Gaultier Exhibition

Since finishing my first year at University I have a few weeks to fill in before heading home. What better way to spend the time with friends and culturally exploring London before going back up to rural Yorkshire for the summer. So yesterday I went to the Jean Paul Gaultier exhibition at the Barbican in London with a few friends.

The exhibition was breathtaking, the garments were varied, exquisite and timeless. The concepts behind the collections and creations were inspiring, along with the little added touches, such as the talking faces projected onto the mannequins, made the exhibition all that little bit more special. Although there is an entrance  fee (£9.00 for a student) it is well worth the money. In total we spent two & a half hours exploring the exhibition & time flew! It is a definite must see in London, whether you are a Gaultier fan or not; the hours, craftsmanship, and detail put into every garment is something that can be appreciated by all. Ultimately awe-inspiring.

Enjoy. x

Last Tuesday I finished my first year at university (its scary how fast time has gone), so on the Wednesday my friend and I went on a city break to Paris for a few days. It was my first time to Paris and despite losing my bag (and some personal belongings along with it) I had an amazing time. Its easy to see how people fall in love with the city because, admittedly,  I have fallen for it too! Already thinking about the next time I visit and what I’ll do…
